As a student, it can become overwhelming to keep track of work, homework, internship applications, and many more things, depending on where you are in your journey. Students use various formats and tools to keep track of daily life, like planners, apps, and software like Excel or even online tools like Google Calendars or Google Sheets. This is significant since everyone ultimately uses what helps them best to stay on task and help them with balancing everything out. Therefore, offering optional resources like pre-made Google tracking sheets can save you a lot of time and become something you can personalize to your needs while keeping track!
Another potential resource is the Internship S.M.A.R.T. Goal Tracking System resource, where you may keep your S.M.A.R.T. goals and assist you in tracking your things online. Keep in mind that there are many resources in KCVC, otherwise known as Katie Career Virtual Center, at your fingertips as well. Our SMART Goal Worksheet may be a good option for students who like to write their ideas on paper. Remember that this tracking system does not replace the required internship set-up process for academic credit as outlined in the required checklist; this new online tracking system is more for personal use if you like to keep all your links in one place and organize your things.
All you have to do is click on “ Internship S.M.A.R.T. Goal Tracking System,” and on the far left top corner, click on “ file,” and then click on “ make a copy.” You should be able to rename this document, for example, with “your name: Internship S.M.A.R.T. Goal Tracking Sheet/System” and click “make a copy” again, but ensure none of the boxes are clicked, as in the visual below.
Once in the tracking sheet, you will see starter tasks that will be required through the official checklist (also linked in row 3, column B). In the boxes to the right of “tasks,” you may insert your links and even add more functions to the task section. You may want to input your internship’s name in the “internship title 1”.
Now, going on to focus on your S.M.A.R.T. goals being part of the required process can hopefully be made more accessible for you by utilizing the following sheets in this document labeled S.M.A.R.T. Goal #1 – #4; there you can brainstorm each goal and start building a plan to achieve those four goals that connect to your Career Competencies.
S.M.A.R.T. goals stand for Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Time-Bound or Time-Specific. Each of these steps builds up your plan toward achieving your goal, but keeping track of all four of your goal plans can result in multiple papers or multiple Google docs that can get lost or misplaced. Ultimately, the goal is to make it much easier for students to have all their goals in one place to save time and keep track of their plans more efficiently.
