College Internship Opportunity
Literacy Matters Foundation empowers K-3rd grade learners with the basic reading, writing and spelling skills needed to close the literacy gap, leveraging Orton-Gillingham’s evidence-based curriculum, delivered by leading-edge technology, Mighty Doodle™. We partner with elementary schools to serve students by providing lessons on iPads.
As a Mighty Doodle™ Intern, you will travel to your assigned school, and, aided by the classroom teacher, monitor and assist students as they complete their Mighty Doodle™ lessons. We are looking for dependable interns with excellent interpersonal skills and interests in working with young children and learning about teaching reading. Reliable transportation is required. The internship, ranging from three months to a full school year, may be eligible for field experience credits at your college. Training will be provided by Literacy Matters. Robust COVID-19 protocols are in place at all our partner schools.
Mighty Doodle™ adapts lessons to match each student’s learning pattern, thus providing an individualized experience. Students proceed through a sequence of mini games, connecting sounds to symbols and symbols to sounds. This process, known as “breaking the code,” helps children develop the necessary skills for decoding and encoding, the building blocks of reading. The program’s voice/handwriting recognition technology is the first and only of its kind. The Mighty Doodle™ whole-child centered program integrates mindfulness and mobility exercises. The program was created in tandem with child mental health professionals, a neuropsychologist, and mobility/mindfulness specialists.
We want to thank you for your interest in supporting our Mighty Doodle™ program in K-3rd grade classrooms. For more information, please contact Claire Blanchette: claire.blanchette@literacymatters.org
