Position Description:

The Refugee Reunification Intern will assist Institute staff with Affidavits of Relationship (AOR) and I-730 Refugee/Asylee Relative Petitions. These programs reunite refugees abroad with family members in the U.S. Training is provided and you will be supervised by Institute program staff throughout your internship.

Candidate Profile:

• Should be energetic with a positive attitude and be comfortable in a cross-cultural environment

• Should be organized, detailed, patient, and have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment

• Must speak Somali, Oromo, or Amharic fluently

• Should have experience with computers and Microsoft products

• Should have strong communication skills and good phone etiquette

• Candidate must be able to pass a background check

Primary Duties Include:

• Screen and prepare refugee/asylee clients for family reunification appointments

• Assist with family reunification case management

• Contact clients with information regarding upcoming appointments and case updates

• Organize and prepare files

• Use multiple databases to manage pending and active cases

Time Commitment:

• Minimum of 10 hours/week

• Monday- Friday 9:00am-5:00pm (days and times are flexible)

• Priority given to candidates who can commit to a minimum of 3 months

Internship Terms:

• Spring Term: January – April/May (Interviews in December)

• Summer Term: May/June – August (Interviews in May)

• Fall Term: September – December (Interviews in August)
