Position Title: Mental Health Practitioner

Classification: New program hiring for a variety of full and part time positions.

Day, evening, and overnight hours available.

Location: Scott County Residential, 12390 Ottawa Ave, Savage, MN 55378

Salary Range: $17.17 – $20.20 per Hour

About Guild:

Guild believes that dignity is a basic human right- which is why we work hard to connect individuals to proper mental health treatment, competitive employment, and stable housing. We serve individuals 16 and older who are experiencing serve and persistent mental illness, mental illness concerns, and chronic homelessness. On any given day, Guild staff serves nearly 900 individuals in the Twin Cities metro area. Services are mobile, provided in the community when and where needed. By looking at the holistic wellness of each client we serve, we are able to facilitate healing, growth, and new quality of life.

Purpose:

This position is responsible to provide supportive services to recipients through building individuals’ strengths, directing efforts to assist people managing their mental health, assisting with stabilizing acute and crisis situations and assisting with skill building towards increased independence. This position supports and provides services to all residential programs.

Key Responsibilities:

A. Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of:

• Mental illness and the needs of people with mental illness,

• Living skills such as basic hygiene & nutrition, housekeeping, budgeting and using public transportation and community resources.

Skills in:

• Oral and written communication.

• Human relations including the understanding of and respect for boundaries, values, and personal differences

• Organization and time management

Ability to:

• Self-motivate and prioritize tasks on a daily basis.

• Empower and respect recipients as unique individuals.

• Establish effective working relationships that maintain appropriate recipient/staff boundaries.

• Teach living skills to recipients

• Problem solve by identifying and implement an effective solution.

• Be flexible and adapt to changing conditions in the workplace.

• Promote an inclusive, diverse, culturally competent and respectful work environment.

• Demonstrate compassion and respect for people.

• Coordinate work with others as part of a team to deliver quality services to recipients.

• Assess an individual’s potential for self injury or injury of others.

• Intervene in crisis situations and facilitate stabilization.

Education and Experiences:

B. Education and Experience

Must be qualified as a Mental Health Practitioner as follows:

• Through relevant coursework if the practitioner completes at least 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours in behavioral sciences or related fields and:

o Has at least 2,000 hours of supervised experience in the delivery of services to adults or children with: (i) mental illness, substance use disorder, or emotional disturbance; or (ii) traumatic brain injury or developmental disabilities and completes training on mental illness, recovery from mental illness, mental health de-escalation techniques, co-occurring mental illness and substance abuse, and psychotropic medications and side effects;

o Is fluent in the non-English language of the ethnic group to which at least 50 percent of the practitioner’s clients belong, completes 40 hours of training in the delivery of services to adults with mental illness or children with emotional disturbance, and receives clinical supervision from a mental health professional at least once a week until the requirement of 2,000 hours of supervised experience is met;

o Is working in a day treatment program under section 245.4712, subdivision 2; or

o Has completed a practicum or internship that (1) requires direct interaction with adults or children served, and (2) is focused on behavioral sciences or related fields.

• Through work experience if the person:

o Has at least 4,000 hours of supervised experience in the delivery of services to adults or children with: (i) mental illness, substance use disorder, or emotional disturbance; or (ii) traumatic brain injury or developmental disabilities and completes training on mental illness, recovery from mental illness, mental health de-escalation techniques, co-occurring mental illness and substance abuse, and psychotropic medications and side effects; or

o Has at least 2,000 hours of supervised experience in the delivery of services to adults or children with: (i) mental illness, emotional disturbance, or substance use disorder, and receives clinical supervision as required by applicable statutes and rules from a mental health professional at least once a week until the requirement of 4,000 hours of supervised experience is met; or (ii) traumatic brain injury or developmental disabilities; completes training on mental illness, recovery from mental illness, mental health de-escalation techniques, co-occurring mental illness and substance abuse, and psychotropic medications and side effects; and receives clinical supervision as required by applicable statutes and rules at least once a week from a mental health professional until the requirement of 4,000 hours of supervised experience is met.

• Through a graduate student internship if the practitioner is a graduate student in behavioral sciences or related fields and is formally assigned by an accredited college or university to an agency or facility for clinical training.

• A bachelor’s or master’s degree if the practitioner:

o Holds a master’s or other graduate degree in behavioral sciences or related fields; or

o Holds a bachelor’s degree in behavioral sciences or related fields and completes a practicum or internship that (1) requires direct interaction with adults or children served, and (2) is focused on behavioral sciences or related fields.

C. Other Required Qualifications

• Current CPR / First Aid Certification is required.

• Must be ambulatory and able to negotiate stairways.

• The ability to lift and carry weights that could be up to or even exceed 40 pounds.

• Ability to perform CPR, first aid, and respond to emergency situations.

• Must not be actively receiving services from Guild Incorporated and must not have received services within the last two years.
