Environmental Engineer

Great Lakes Environmental Center, Inc. (GLEC) is recruiting highly motivated candidates for an experienced Environmental Engineer position in Traverse City, Michigan. An advanced degree in Environmental Engineering or equivalent demonstrated experience is preferred. Candidates must have a strong background and interest in all aspects of engineering as applied to aquatic science, including: analysis and interpretation of biological, chemical and toxicity data, mathematical modeling, application of mass balance principles, total maximum daily load (TMDL) and development of quality assurance project plans (QAPPs). The position requires working independently on projects and on multidisciplinary teams with other aquatic scientists. Salary range is $75,000-$90,000 annually, commensurate with experience and education.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental or Civil Engineering
  • Broad knowledge of aquatic science, with focus on hydrology, nutrients, eutrophication, toxic chemicals and bioaccumulation;
  • Excellent communication and writing skills;
  • Excellent work ethic, ability to meet deadlines, and ability to work independently as well as in small groups;
  • Experience searching and using scientific literature;
  • Proficient in use of MS Office tools (Word, Excel and Access) and statistical software (R preferred).
