Position Title: Transportation Engineer
We’re looking for a highly motivated intern for the fall semester. Qualified candidates must be detail-oriented, and able to follow instructions and complete assigned tasks on time with minimal supervision. Candidates must be available to work anywhere from 10 to 15 hours a week (additional hours as needed) and commit to the full term of the semester. Ideal candidates will have strong writing and communication skills, and relevant hands-on experience. Compensation ranges from $14 to $18 per hour based on experience level.

Primary Responsibilities
The primary duties include but are not limited to:
§ Collecting traffic turning movement data and approach delays at roadway intersections
§ Conducting speed sampling and travel time runs for traffic studies
§ Maintaining data collection equipment
§ Processing and analyzing traffic data
§ Conducting detailed traffic analysis, including traffic forecasting, congestion analysis, and crash studies
§ Benefit-cost analysis between the base condition and alternative design scenarios
§ Creating data reports and/or ArcGIS maps as needed to support projects
§ Assisting in developing basic tools to streamline the data analysis processes
§ Adherence to quality assurance standards
§ Preparation of project technical reports
§ Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
§ Recent graduate or currently in pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Urban Studies or closely related discipline from an accredited university
§ Knowledge of traffic survey and traffic data collection process
§ Familiarity with ArcGIS software
§ Demonstrated proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
§ Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation)
§ Ability to learn processes, procedures and software independently with speed and depth
§ Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship for employment visa status
§ Must have a proper driver’s license and auto insurance coverage for driving a passenger vehicle
Preferred Qualifications
§ Current overall cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent)
§ 1 year of professional work experience in traffic surveys, traffic engineering, and/or transportation planning studies
§ Experience with data collection equipment and software, such as Jamar’s TDC Ultra for intersection data collection and PC-Travel for travel time runs
§ Applicable internship or co-op experience and/or work experience
