Full Time Expires March 3, 2021

AmeriCorps offers opportunities for people to serve communities across the country — from classrooms to the outdoors to everything in between. In AmeriCorps, you can learn and apply new skills and get paid as you give back to your community, state and country through public service. Since its creation in 1994, more than a million people have served in AmeriCorps.

We offer service opportunities that will build your professional skills and knowledge in a wide array of areas. Across Minnesota, there are positions in education, the environment, affordable housing, computer and job skills training, law enforcement, addiction recovery services and more.

Education programs include (see other postings for other program areas):

· Minnesota Reading Corps members have the option to serve in a preschool classroom or one-on-one with K-3rd grade students to help students become successful readers and confident learners.

· Minnesota Math Corps members make a difference for youth in grades 4-8 through math tutoring during the school day. All the training is provided, so the most important qualification is your ability to connect with students.

· Minnesota Alliance With Youth – Promise Fellows provide direct, holistic support to build positive relationships with young people in grades 6-12 on their path to high school graduation.

· Total Learning Classroom was designed on the Reading Corps model as a solution for high-need schools. One member is placed in each K-3 classroom to support core instruction and provide one-on-one tutoring. There are positions in the metro and Saint Cloud. Watch a short video.

· City of Lakes AmeriCorps is in Minneapolis Public Schools to support middle school English Language Learners in developing academic English to succeed in school. Bilingual a plus, but not required. (NOW FULL for 2020-21)

· AmeriCorps LEAP helps preschool-age children build social-emotional and school readiness skills. This is a southern Minnesota program.

· True North AmeriCorps is only in the Duluth and Proctor area. Members support youth through tutoring, mentoring, and leading afterschool activities.

· Through College Possible, new grads provide support to low-income and first generation students to enroll in and complete college. (NOW FULL for 2020-21)

Members earn a modest living allowance every two weeks and up to $6,195 at the end of their service which can be used to repay qualified student loans or pay tuition. While serving, you can put your student loans in forbearance (accrued interest will be paid for you at the end), and receive health insurance with no premium cost. Housing assistance, equipment stipend, childcare, and transportation assistance available depending on the program.

AmeriCorps is a great transition to your career – you’ll build the skills employers are looking for (e.g., communication, teamwork, leadership, problem solving) and grow your professional network.

Qualifications:

  • must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or equivalent (College Possible requires a college degree)
  • interest in national and community service
  • desire to gain job skills in education, early learning, counseling, youth leadership, etc.
  • passion for helping students realize their potential
  • must be a citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States
  • have served three or fewer terms with an AmeriCorps State or National program
